About this sound

The classic THX intro sound from cinema logo sequences, known for its huge swelling note. People use it for loud reveal memes and movie theater jokes.

This clip is the famous THX Deep Note, the dramatic sound logo heard before many films in theaters and on home releases. It starts as a tense electronic hum, then grows into a massive layered chord that feels wide, powerful, and slightly overwhelming. Because the buildup is slow and the payoff is so loud and cinematic, it instantly makes a moment feel bigger than it really is. In memes and edits, that contrast is the joke: a tiny action suddenly gets treated like an epic blockbuster event.

The sound is widely known as the THX Deep Note, the audio logo for THX, the theater sound system company founded by Lucasfilm. It was created in 1983 by James A. Moorer and became closely associated with cinema preshows and home video intros. Online, it spread beyond movie fans because the long buildup and explosive finish work perfectly as a loud reveal gag. It is still popular because almost everyone recognizes the feeling of that booming theater intro, even in short meme edits.
