About this sound

The CBS NFL theme is the dramatic instrumental intro heard on NFL on CBS broadcasts, often used to open football edits, recaps, and game-day videos.

This clip features the bold, orchestral theme associated with NFL broadcasts on CBS. Brass, strings, and driving percussion build a polished sense of anticipation across its nearly 30-second runtime, recalling the opening moments before a major football game. Its rising phrases and emphatic finish give ordinary footage the scale of a televised sports event. Creators use the music to make predictions, highlight reels, fantasy football updates, and humorous backyard plays feel like part of a professional broadcast package.

The familiar NFL on CBS music is based on “Posthumus Zone,” a composition by the group E.S. Posthumus that CBS adopted for its professional football coverage in 2003. Its cinematic orchestration became closely tied to pregame introductions, broadcast graphics, and major matchup previews. Online, the theme spread through sports edits, parody broadcasts, and fan-made highlight packages. It remains recognizable because its rising brass and percussion instantly suggest televised football, especially when paired with crowd cheering or stadium footage.
