About this sound

The iconic tiny violin tune used sarcastically in memes to mock fake sadness, failures, and ironic sympathy moments.

This sound clip features a high-pitched, melancholic, and slightly distorted violin melody that has become the universal audio cue for mock sympathy. When played, its overly dramatic and weeping tone instantly signals to the viewer that a character's misfortune is not to be taken seriously. Instead of evoking genuine sadness, the exaggerated mournfulness of the string instrument turns minor inconveniences and first-world problems into hilarious, ironic tragedies. It creates a humorous contrast between a trivial disappointment and an epic, cinematic level of sorrow, making it a staple for comedic timing in modern video editing.

The melody is originally titled 'Sad Romance' and was composed by South Korean artist Ji Pyeongkeyon for the soundtrack of the 2003 television drama series Over the Green Fields. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, the track gained immense popularity on YouTube, where creators paired the dramatic violin solo with parody videos, gaming fails, and sarcastic skits. Today, the sound remains a staple across TikTok and YouTube Shorts, serving as the ultimate auditory shorthand to mock exaggerated sadness, first-world problems, and comedic disappointments.
