About this sound

The recognizable Taco Bell notification chime turned into a meme sound for food jokes, late-night snack humor, ironic reveals, and fast-paced TikTok transitions involving cravings and surprise moments.

The Taco Bell bong is a deep, resonant metallic chime that instantly triggers recognition. Originally created as the signature audio logo for the fast-food chain's commercials, this clean bell strike has taken on a hilarious second life online. In video editing, it acts as a comedic punctuation mark, delivering a sudden burst of dramatic or ironic emphasis. When viewers hear it, they immediately associate it with late-night cravings, sudden realizations, or moments of sheer absurdity. Its clean, metallic ring cuts through background audio, making it an incredibly effective tool for comedic timing and quick visual transitions.

The legendary sound effect was originally produced in 1985 by composer Ed Bogas using a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer on the "TUB BELLS" patch. Taco Bell adopted the resonant chime for its television commercials in 1989, turning it into one of the most recognizable sonic logos in advertising history. Decades later, the sound found a second home in internet meme culture. Much like the vine boom sound, this chime has become a staple of modern internet humor. It is often grouped alongside other metallic impact memes, such as the metal pipe clang, to deliver instant comedic timing.
