About this sound

Content generated with AI assistance

A Postal 2 NPC voice line of a male bystander mid-rant, asking why he gets cut off when talking. Gamers drop it into memes and edits about being interrupted.

This three-second clip captures a male pedestrian from Postal 2 launching into a familiar complaint, opening with 'Why is it, when you're talking...' before trailing off mid-thought. The voice is dry, slightly nasal, and conversational, delivered with the weary sarcasm of a random bystander in the town of Paradise rather than a scripted hero. It sounds unfinished on purpose, like someone venting while walking past you. That abruptness is the joke: it lands as instant, relatable frustration, and viewers immediately recognize the game's blunt, darkly funny NPC chatter.

The line comes from Postal 2, the 2003 open-world comedy shooter by Running With Scissors, as part of its ambient pedestrian dialogue. The 'WM' tag marks it as a white male bystander bark, one of many short NPC complaints scattered through the town of Paradise. Clips like this spread through fan soundboards, where players ripped and shared the game's funniest throwaway lines. It sits in the same lane as quotable open-world game dialogue like the CJ line from GTA San Andreas, and it endures because the grievance is universal and the delivery is so deadpan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Content generated with AI assistance

Where is the 'Why is it, when you're talking...' sound from?

It's an ambient NPC bark from Postal 2 (2003), the Running With Scissors open-world comedy shooter. The "WM" label means it was spoken by a white male pedestrian in the town of Paradise.

Who says this line in Postal 2?

A random white male bystander, not a main character. Postal 2 fills Paradise with pedestrians who mutter complaints like this as you walk past them.

Why do creators use this sound in memes?

The unfinished sentence is perfect for interruption jokes. Editors cut it off with a loud noise, a friend talking over the speaker, or a punchline, because everyone recognizes the frustration of being cut off mid-thought.
