About this sound

The classic Murloc gurgle from World of Warcraft, used in gaming memes, fantasy edits, and clips that need a goofy but instantly recognizable creature noise.

This sound is the iconic Murloc vocalization: a wet, warbling gurgle often written as "mrglglgl" by fans of World of Warcraft. It is short, odd, and instantly recognizable, landing somewhere between a croak, a gobble, and bubbling underwater chatter. The effect is comedic and chaotic at the same time, which is why people use it to punctuate strange character reveals, awkward reactions, or any moment that needs a weird fantasy creature sound. Even without seeing the creature, the audio gives a scene a playful, game-world feel.

The Murloc sound comes from the Murloc enemies in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, where their strange gurgling voices became one of the game's most recognizable audio cues. Players repeated the noise in text as "mrglglgl," helping it spread through forums, videos, machinima, and memes during the early years of WoW. It is still used because even people who have not played recently often recognize it right away. Online, the clip usually stands for goofy monster energy, incomprehensible speech, or classic MMO nostalgia.
