About this sound

The classic Wololo chant from Age of Empires, used in memes, gaming edits and joke conversions when something suddenly switches sides.

Wololo is the iconic monk chant from Age of Empires, a short vocal clip most players instantly recognize from unit conversion. It has a soft, rhythmic, almost hypnotic delivery that builds a weirdly dramatic feeling in just over a second. Because the sound is so distinctive, it lands fast in memes and edits where someone changes allegiance, gets persuaded, or unexpectedly flips to the other side. Even people who never played the game often know it as the go-to audio cue for a funny conversion or sudden change of mind.

Wololo comes from the monk unit in the original Age of Empires, where the chant became tied to the conversion mechanic. Among strategy game fans, it turned into one of the most memorable audio cues of the series and stayed popular through sequels, remasters, and online memes. The sound spread far beyond real-time strategy communities because its meaning is instantly clear: someone or something has been converted. That simple joke keeps it useful in reaction edits, gaming clips, and crossover memes years later.
