About this sound

A frustrated combat voice line from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, used in memes and edits when someone refuses to lose, quit or go down.

This clip is a short, angry voice line from Oblivion where a character yells, "Why won't you die?" in the middle of combat. The delivery is dramatic, strained and a little awkward in that classic open-world RPG way, which is exactly why it lands so well as a meme. It instantly adds frustration, disbelief and over-the-top intensity to a moment. Creators use it when an enemy keeps surviving, a joke goes on too long, or someone keeps coming back no matter what happens.

This sound comes from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda's 2006 fantasy RPG known for memorable NPC dialogue and combat barks. Clips from Oblivion spread online for years because of the game's stiff delivery and unintentionally funny voice acting. "Why won't you die?" stuck around as a reaction sound for moments where someone or something absurdly refuses to stop, lose, or disappear. It still shows up in gaming edits, meme compilations, and exaggerated rage clips because the line is instantly readable even out of context.
