About this sound

The famous “Why are you gay?” interview clip from Ugandan TV, used in memes, reaction edits and awkward or confrontational comedy moments.

This clip captures the instantly recognizable line “Why are you gay?” delivered in a serious interview tone that turns absurd out of context. The pause, blunt phrasing and uncomfortable energy make it hit as both a reaction sound and a setup for cringe comedy. Creators use it to interrupt suspicious behavior, mock obvious bait, or exaggerate over-the-top questioning in edits. Even without the full interview, the line lands fast because the delivery feels intense, awkward and strangely formal at the same time.

This sound comes from a Ugandan television interview clip that spread widely online as a meme. The exchange featuring host Simon Kaggwa Njala and activist Pepe Julian Onziema was clipped, reposted and remixed across YouTube, TikTok and meme compilations. Its popularity comes from the blunt wording, the dead-serious delivery and the immediate awkward pause it creates in edits. It still gets used because the line is short, instantly recognizable and fits reaction formats in the same lane as the bruh meme.
