About this sound

The iconic area discovery cue from Dark Souls, heard when a new location name appears. Used in memes, edits and gaming clips to reveal a dramatic new place.

This clip is the unmistakable Dark Souls area discovery sound, the short dramatic cue that plays when you enter a new location and its name fades onto the screen. It has a solemn, weighty tone with a clean musical sting that instantly signals discovery, danger and importance. Even out of context, it makes a moment feel bigger and more serious, which is why creators use it for joke reveals, map transitions and clips where someone arrives somewhere that feels oddly grand or intimidating.

This sound comes from Dark Souls, the action RPG released by FromSoftware in 2011. In the game, the cue plays when players enter a newly discovered area and the location name appears on screen. The moment became memorable because of the game's tense atmosphere and punishing reputation, so the sound spread into gaming edits and memes. It is still popular because a single short sting can instantly frame any ordinary reveal as epic, ominous or absurdly important.
