About this sound

The misheard “Thinkin Bout You” lyric turned into a Vine-style meme sound, used in parody edits, random cutaways and absurd reaction videos.

This clip is the joke version of the well-known lyric “A tornado flew around my room before you came,” misheard and repeated as “A potato flew around my room.” The humor comes from hearing an emotional R&B line turned into something completely ridiculous. It usually lands as a sudden, slightly off-key vocal moment that feels both dramatic and stupid at the same time. In edits, it gives a scene an instant meme quality, especially when paired with confusion, bad luck, awkward timing or a weird visual that needs an absurd punchline.

This sound comes from the widely joked-about misheard lyric from Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You,” where “A tornado flew around my room” was reimagined online as “A potato flew around my room.” The phrase became a recurring internet joke during the Vine era and kept circulating through short memes, reposts and parody edits. It is still used because the line is instantly recognizable to many viewers and turns a sincere song moment into a perfect absurd reaction.
