About this sound

The short hit sound effect from Undertale, heard when a character takes damage. Creators use it in game edits, fail clips and sudden mistake moments.

This clip is the brief damage taken sound from Undertale, the sharp little hit cue that plays when a character gets hurt. It lasts only a moment, with a clean retro game feel that fits the RPG's minimalist audio style. Because it is so short and instantly readable, it works well as a punchline for mistakes, bad luck, or any moment where something goes wrong on screen. Viewers recognize it as a tiny setback sound, so it adds quick comedic impact without overpowering the rest of a video.

This sound comes from Undertale, the indie RPG created by Toby Fox and released in 2015. Its simple retro effects became familiar to players through battles, menus, and repeated encounters, which helped short clips like this spread in edits and meme videos. Online, the damage cue is still used because it communicates an instant loss or misplay in less than a second. It often appears in compilations of game sound effects alongside recognizable cues such as the ROBLOX oof.
