About this sound

The classic “Toasty!” shout from Mortal Kombat, used as a quick punchline after a hit, jump scare reveal or sudden fail in gaming memes.

This clip is the famous high-pitched “Toasty!” exclamation heard in Mortal Kombat. It is very short, sharp and instantly recognizable, with a playful arcade feel that cuts through a video in a split second. Creators use it as a comedic sting when something unexpected happens, especially after a clean hit, a surprise appearance or a perfectly timed mistake. Because the sound is so brief, it lands fast and gives a scene an old-school fighting game energy without taking over the whole edit.

The “Toasty!” sound comes from the Mortal Kombat series and is most closely associated with the hidden pop-up by sound designer Dan Forden in the arcade era, especially Mortal Kombat II in 1993. It became a long-running in-joke among fighting game fans, then spread into broader meme editing online. People still use it because the delivery is so quick and recognizable, making it ideal for hit confirms, surprise appearances and old-school arcade references in short videos.
