About this sound

A short clip from Cotton Eye Joe, the Rednex hit based on an old folk tune. People use it for goofy dance edits, country jokes and sudden chaotic energy.

This sound is a brief clip from Cotton Eye Joe, the fast, bouncy dance track made famous by Rednex. It has a fiddle-driven rhythm, stomping beat and instantly recognizable hook that gives a video a playful, slightly ridiculous rush of energy. Even in a few seconds, it signals line dancing, country fair chaos and over-the-top fun. Creators use it when a scene needs a sudden burst of movement, a nostalgic party vibe or a deliberately cheesy punchline that viewers will recognize right away.

Cotton Eye Joe became a global hit when Swedish group Rednex released their eurodance version in 1994, reworking a much older American folk song. The track spread through radio, parties, school dances and sports events, then found a second life in short-form videos and meme edits. People still use it because the opening feel and chorus are instantly familiar, upbeat and a little absurd, which makes even ordinary clips feel like a chaotic dance-floor moment.
