About this sound

A comic voice clip of “That's a spicy meatball,” a line from a classic 1969 television commercial, used for food reveals and exaggerated reactions.

This short voice clip delivers the familiar line “That's a spicy meatball” with an exaggerated Italian-style accent and theatrical enthusiasm. Its drawn-out pronunciation gives the reaction a deliberately overacted, old-fashioned comic quality. The sound works as a punchline whenever food looks unusually hot, rich, messy, or impressive, but creators also use it for situations that have nothing to do with cooking. Dropped after a surprising reveal or obvious mistake, the phrase turns the moment into playful melodrama and signals that the audience should not take the reaction seriously.

The catchphrase is associated with a 1969 American television commercial built around an actor repeatedly filming a meatball scene. Each spoiled take required another bite, turning the exaggerated line into the advertisement’s central joke. The commercial remained memorable because of its theatrical accent, repeated setup, and easy-to-quote wording. Decades later, short audio clips and reaction edits gave the phrase a second life online, where it became a flexible punchline for food videos, visual reveals, and situations that seem comically intense.
