About this sound

A short French "ta gueule" clip meaning "shut up," used in memes, reaction edits and chat jokes when someone says something annoying or absurd.

This sound is a very short burst of someone saying "ta gueule," a blunt French phrase used to tell someone to shut up. The delivery is sharp, fast and instantly confrontational, which gives it a punchy comedic effect in edits. Because the clip is so brief, it works like a verbal slap: it cuts off a rambling moment, underlines a ridiculous take or turns a back-and-forth into a joke. Viewers usually read it as exaggerated sass rather than a serious insult, especially in meme and reaction contexts.

This clip circulates online as a short French reaction sound built around the phrase "ta gueule." It has been widely reused on meme pages, soundboards and quick video edits because the meaning is immediate even for viewers who do not speak French. Its spread seems tied more to reaction culture than to one clearly identified source clip. Creators keep using it because it is under two seconds long, easy to time on a cut, and strong enough to replace a longer spoken comeback.
