About this sound

A MIDI version of Smash Mouth's All Star, known from Vinesauce Joel's Windows XP Destruction and used in ironic edits, retro memes, and chaotic nostalgia clips.

This clip is a MIDI-style rendition of Smash Mouth's All Star, with the song's familiar melody played through synthetic, old-school computer instruments. Instead of the full rock production, it has a stiff, tinny, almost cheerful sound that feels deliberately outdated. That contrast makes it funny in memes: a big, recognizable pop tune reduced to basic digital tones. It works especially well in retro PC jokes, low-budget parody edits, and videos that lean into awkward nostalgia or controlled chaos.

This sound is a MIDI take on All Star by Smash Mouth, a song widely associated with late-1990s and early-2000s pop culture. This particular version is noted by listeners for its use in Vinesauce Joel's Windows XP Destruction, which helped give it a second life in meme and gaming circles. The simple computer-instrument arrangement fits perfectly with old PC aesthetics, corrupted desktop jokes, and ironic internet nostalgia, so creators still use it when they want a recognizable song with a cheap, retro feel.
