About this sound

A short DJ scratch sound effect based on vinyl turntable techniques, used for transitions, punchlines, record-stop edits, and hip-hop video cuts.

This brief sound captures the sharp, rhythmic scrape associated with a DJ moving a vinyl record back and forth beneath a turntable needle. Its quick rise, reversal, and textured finish create an immediate sense of interruption or momentum. The effect can make a visual cut feel more deliberate, add old-school hip-hop character, or punctuate an unexpected reveal. Because the clip lasts under two seconds, it works as a compact audio accent rather than a musical passage, delivering recognizable turntable energy without overwhelming dialogue or surrounding music.

DJ scratching comes from manually moving a vinyl record while it plays on a turntable, producing rhythmic forward-and-back sounds. The technique became closely associated with hip-hop DJ culture and later appeared throughout popular music, radio production, television, games, and online video. The exact recording source of this clip is not identified, but its compact format matches the scratch accents commonly used in digital editing. It remains useful because listeners immediately recognize it as a cue for interruption, rewinding, mixing, or a sudden change of scene.
