It has a quick, rolling percussion sound that creates suspense, then primes the viewer for a reveal, joke or result. Because the phrase “rufem os tambores” is widely understood online, the sound works well in memes, countdown edits and reaction videos where you want to make a small moment feel dramatic. Even in a short format, it instantly signals that something important, ironic or funny is about to be shown.

“Rufem os tambores” is a common Portuguese expression meaning “drum roll, please,” so this sound is mainly used as a suspense cue rather than being tied to one specific character or scene. Online, it appears in meme edits, WhatsApp forwards and short videos to dramatize reveals, rankings and punchlines. Its staying power comes from how instantly recognizable the phrase and percussion pattern are: viewers immediately understand that a result, twist or joke is coming next.
