About this sound

A drawn-out Plankton scream-groan from SpongeBob SquarePants, used in memes, reaction edits and goofy scary clips when something feels weird.

This clip features Plankton doing a long, strained "ahhhmm" style yell that starts like a scream and trails into a groan. The voice is high, dramatic and instantly cartoonish, which makes even ordinary footage feel more chaotic or unsettling in a funny way. People use it when a reveal is cursed, a zoom gets awkward, or a character looks tiny but menacing. Because the sound stretches for a few seconds, it works well for building tension and then tipping a scene into absurdity rather than delivering a quick punchline.

This sound is associated with Plankton from SpongeBob SquarePants, the long-running animated television series. Online, creators clipped the exaggerated yell and turned it into a reaction sound for weird reveals, ominous close-ups and absurd villain moments. It spread through short meme edits, reposted reaction videos and soundboard uploads because Plankton's voice is instantly recognizable and naturally funny. The clip still gets used because it sits between a scream and a groan, making it useful for both mock horror and ironic comedy.
