About this sound

The classic Nokia text message alert tone from older mobile phones, used in memes, retro edits and skits to signal a sudden message or throwback phone moment.

This sound is the familiar Nokia SMS alert heard on many older Nokia mobile phones. It is a short, bright notification chime with a crisp electronic tone that instantly suggests a text message arriving. Because the sound is so recognizable, it quickly sets a retro mobile phone mood even in a very short clip. Creators use it to cue incoming messages, awkward interruptions, or nostalgic early-2000s moments, and viewers usually recognize the reference right away from the first note.

The Nokia SMS alert became widely recognized through Nokia mobile phones that were especially common in the late 1990s and 2000s. Long after those devices faded from daily use, the tone stayed popular online because it instantly communicates old-school texting and mobile nostalgia. It is often used in comparison videos, retro tech jokes, and edits about simple phones versus modern apps. In soundboard use, it fills a similar role to a Discord Notification by signaling a message in a split second.
