About this sound

The Mr Bean opening theme features Howard Goodall's dramatic choral music from the British sitcom, used for comic entrances, awkward reveals, and nostalgia.

This clip captures the solemn, choir-led opening associated with Mr Bean. The voices and grand ceremonial tone make the character’s appearance feel far more important than the awkward comedy that follows. That contrast gives the audio its distinctive humor: it sounds heavenly and dramatic while introducing someone known for clumsy, strange behavior. Editors often use the theme to frame an unexpected entrance, present an ordinary person as a mysterious figure, or add affectionate nostalgia to clips referencing classic British television comedy.

The opening music comes from Mr Bean, the British television comedy starring Rowan Atkinson. Composer Howard Goodall wrote the choral theme, known as “Ecce Homo,” for the series, which premiered in 1990 on ITV. Its mock-solemn Latin choir accompanies the title sequence in which Bean appears under a beam of light, giving his arrival an absurdly grand tone. The contrast between sacred-sounding music and physical comedy made the cue instantly recognizable, and it remains popular in edits built around odd entrances and nostalgic television references.
