About this sound

The brief Hornet death sound from Hollow Knight: Silksong captures her defeat cry, used in gaming edits, failed-run reactions, memes, and fan videos.

This brief clip captures Hornet’s defeat vocalization in Hollow Knight: Silksong. It is a sharp, compact cry that ends quickly, making the moment feel sudden rather than drawn out. The sound immediately signals a failed attempt, lost fight, or abrupt setback to viewers familiar with game audio cues. Because it lasts just over a second, it can punctuate a cut without interrupting the pace of an edit. Its dramatic delivery also works humorously when attached to minor mistakes, unlucky moments, or exaggerated on-screen collapses.

The clip originates from Hollow Knight: Silksong, the 2025 action-adventure game starring Hornet. Players encounter the vocal cue when her run ends, so it quickly became recognizable through gameplay recordings, streams, challenge videos, and fan edits. Its short duration makes it useful beyond Silksong footage, especially as a punchline for sudden failure. Like the Roblox oof, it communicates an in-game defeat almost instantly, while Hornet’s distinctive delivery keeps it closely associated with her character and the wider Hollow Knight community.
