About this sound

The classic Uncle Roger “haiya” reaction clip from Nigel Ng’s character, used in memes and edits for disappointment, frustration or second-hand shame.

This sound is the short, exasperated “haiya” catchphrase made famous by Uncle Roger. It is a quick vocal reaction that lands somewhere between a groan, sigh and scolding remark, with a disappointed tone that instantly signals something went wrong. In edits, it works as a punchy reaction to bad decisions, awkward moments or obvious mistakes. Because the delivery is so recognizable, it adds a layer of comedic judgment without needing a long quote, making even small visual fails feel sharper and funnier.

The “haiya” sound is closely associated with Uncle Roger, the comedy character created by Nigel Ng. The character became widely popular on YouTube in 2020 through reaction videos about cooking, where “haiya” turned into a repeated expression of frustration and disbelief.
