About this sound

A long SCP-096 crying sound effect inspired by the SCP Foundation creature, used to build dread in horror edits, game videos, and tense memes.

This 18-second clip features prolonged, distressed crying associated with SCP-096, the unsettling humanoid creature from SCP Foundation fiction. The wavering sobs sound isolated and mournful, but they also suggest that something dangerous may happen next. Unlike a sudden scream or impact, the noise builds tension gradually and gives viewers time to recognize the character before a reveal. Its uneasy emotional tone works especially well in dark hallways, containment scenes, horror gameplay, and memes that turn an uncomfortable situation into an exaggerated crisis.

SCP-096 comes from the SCP Foundation, a collaborative horror-fiction project where the humanoid anomaly is commonly nicknamed the Shy Guy. Its lore depicts it crying while passive and becoming violently agitated after someone sees its face. That contrast made sobbing audio a natural cue in fan games, animations, gameplay videos, and short-form horror edits. Different recordings circulate online, so this clip’s specific recording source is not confirmed. The sound remains useful because fans immediately associate quiet crying with an approaching SCP-096 encounter.
