About this sound

Caesar screams “No” during the pivotal scene in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Creators use the dramatic outburst for shock, defiance, and reactions.

Its abrupt delivery conveys anger, resistance, and a major shift in power, making the audio instantly dramatic even outside the film. In edits, the short outburst can turn a refusal, failed plan, or upsetting reveal into a cinematic reaction. The surrounding tension gives the scream more weight than a typical shouted response.

The sound comes from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the 2011 film in which Caesar is portrayed through Andy Serkis’s performance. Caesar’s spoken “No” marks a pivotal turning point because it reveals his ability to speak while openly resisting human control. The scene became one of the film’s most memorable moments and later circulated through reaction videos, memes, and dramatic edits.
