About this sound

A short clip of the famous Drake lyric from Hotline Bling, used in memes, reaction edits, and jokes about late-night calls or obvious attention seeking.

This sound is the recognizable sung line “you used to call me on my cell phone,” delivered in Drake’s smooth, slightly drawn-out style. It has a catchy, instantly familiar tone that makes even a short clip feel dramatic, needy, or playfully romantic. In edits, the line usually lands as a joke about someone suddenly texting, calling at the wrong time, or acting different than before. Because the melody is so memorable, it works fast and gives a clip an ironic, nostalgic pop-meme energy without needing much setup.

This sound comes from Drake’s 2015 hit “Hotline Bling,” especially the opening lyric that became one of the song’s most quoted moments online. The track spread widely through reaction videos, short meme edits, and social posts because the line is easy to recognize in just a second or two. It is still used when creators want to imply romance, mixed signals, late-night texting, or someone reappearing out of nowhere. Its staying power comes from how quickly the lyric sets the joke.
