About this sound

A short comedy drum sting, often called a rimshot, used after a bad joke or awkward pun. It comes from classic stand-up and sketch comedy timing.

This sound is the familiar comedy drum hit played right after a corny joke lands badly. It is short, sharp, and instantly recognisable, with a punchy snare-and-cymbal style sting that mimics the classic rimshot feel from live comedy. The effect tells the viewer that a line was intentionally cheesy, awkward, or dad-joke level funny. Because the cue is so quick, it works well in memes, edits, and reaction clips where you want to underline a failed punchline without stopping the pace of the video.

This sound is based on the comedy rimshot, a musical sting long associated with stand-up, variety shows, and old-school broadcast comedy. The cue became a standard way to underline weak puns and deliberate one-liners, especially when a joke is meant to feel knowingly bad. Online, it spread beyond stage comedy into meme edits, short videos, and reaction posts because viewers immediately understand the joke structure. Its staying power comes from that instant recognition: one quick hit can turn an ordinary line into a classic groan-worthy punchline.
