The short clang of Cairo Santos' kick hitting the upright for the Kansas City Chiefs, used for near misses, lucky bounces and football memes.

This is the split-second metallic ping of a football striking the goalpost upright, taken from Cairo Santos' game-winning attempt for the Kansas City Chiefs. The kick does not sail cleanly through, it clangs, wobbles and drops in, and that uncertainty is packed into less than a second of audio. The sharp doink rings out first, followed by the implication of a score that almost failed. Viewers instantly feel the tension release, because the sound alone tells the whole story of a kick that was inches from disaster but counted anyway in the end for the win.

The clip comes from a Kansas City Chiefs game in which kicker Cairo Santos, the Brazilian kicker who played for the team in the mid 2010s, saw his winning kick strike the upright before going through. Football fans call that metal-on-ball contact a doink, and the sound became a shorthand online for improbable luck. It spread through sports highlights, reaction edits and meme soundboards, where a single goalpost clang can replace a whole explanation. It stays popular because American football, soccer and basketball fans all recognise a post hit instantly.
