About this sound

A short record scratch or wheel-up sound effect used for sudden stops, awkward pauses, and comedic cutoffs in memes, edits, and DJ-style transitions.

This clip is a classic vinyl scratch or wheel-up effect: a quick, gritty record-stop sound that feels like a turntable being pulled back by hand. It has that sharp, skidding texture people instantly recognize from comedy edits and old-school DJ transitions. Creators use it to interrupt a scene, punch up an awkward moment, or make a dramatic record-scratch freeze-frame joke land harder. Because it is so short and recognizable, it works best as a clean, immediate cue that tells the viewer something just changed.

The vinyl scratch sound comes from turntable culture, where pulling or stopping a spinning record creates that rough scraping burst. Over time it became a familiar comedy editing cue in radio, film, TV, and internet videos. Online, people often call it a record scratch, wheel-up, or DJ rewind effect and use it to signal a sudden interruption or tonal shift. It remains popular because the sound is instantly understood, even in very short meme edits, much like an air horn in louder reaction-style clips.
