About this sound

The familiar United States EAS alarm tone used in Emergency Alert System broadcasts, often added to memes, edits, and fake warning videos.

This clip features the recognizable USA Emergency Alert System alarm, the harsh electronic attention signal heard before official broadcast warnings. It has a flat, urgent tone that immediately makes people think of severe weather alerts, TV interruptions, and emergency messages. Because the sound is so distinctive and serious, creators use it to create instant tension, parody dramatic situations, or make ordinary moments feel absurdly high stakes. Even without spoken audio after it, the alarm alone signals that something important or ridiculous is about to happen.

This sound is based on the Emergency Alert System attention signal used in the United States for public warnings on radio and television. The EAS replaced the older Emergency Broadcast System in 1997, and its alert tones became widely recognizable through weather interruptions, civil emergency messages, and national tests. Online, the sound spread because listeners instantly associate it with serious breaking information. Creators still use it for parody alerts, dramatic intros, and edits that exaggerate small events into mock national emergencies.
