About this sound

Rick Sanchez says “the way the news goes” in Rick and Morty, a quick reaction clip used for awkward punchlines, failed plans and deadpan meme edits.

This sound is a short voice clip of Rick Sanchez delivering the line “the way the news goes” in his dry, half-dismissive tone. It lands like a sarcastic sign-off, as if something bad, weird or inconvenient just happened and everyone has to accept it. The clip is brief, clean and instantly recognisable to Rick and Morty fans, which makes it work well as a reaction sound. It adds a detached, absurd mood to edits and usually gets a laugh by turning an anticlimax into the punchline.

This quote comes from Rick and Morty, the animated sci-fi comedy centered on Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith. Online, the phrase spread as a reaction clip because Rick’s delivery turns small disasters and strange outcomes into a deadpan joke. Short sound edits, meme compilations and captioned fails helped keep it in circulation. It is still used because the line is fast, recognizable and flexible enough to fit everything from personal mishaps to ironic news-style punchlines.
