About this sound

The Hampsterdance song is the fast, squeaky tune from the classic web meme, used for frantic edits, nostalgic posts, and playful dance clips.

This clip features the instantly recognizable Hampsterdance tune, a rapid, high-pitched melody associated with one of the earliest widely shared internet memes. Its squeaky vocal sounds and relentless rhythm create a cheerful, deliberately silly mood that can make ordinary movement seem frantic or cartoonish. The short musical loop works especially well with repeated actions, quick cuts, dancing animals, and nostalgic references to early web culture. For viewers who remember the original meme, it also delivers an immediate burst of late-1990s internet nostalgia.

The Hampster Dance began as a 1998 web page created by Canadian art student Deidre LaCarte. Rows of animated hamsters danced while a looping, sped-up sample played in the background. That audio drew from Roger Miller’s song “Whistle Stop,” written for Disney’s 1973 animated film Robin Hood. The page spread widely through email and word of mouth during the early web era, later inspiring commercial recordings and numerous remixes. Its simple animation, catchy loop, and distinctive squeaky pitch keep it recognizable in nostalgic memes and short-form videos.
