About this sound

A cockpit warning voice repeats “terrain” and “pull up,” signaling an urgent collision risk and adding aviation danger to videos, edits, and memes.

This audio recreates the urgent cockpit alert heard when an aircraft is dangerously close to terrain. A firm synthetic voice calls “terrain” before commanding “pull up,” with repetition that makes the threat feel immediate and severe. The clipped delivery is designed to cut through noise and demand instant attention. In videos, the warning creates tension before a crash, near miss, steep descent, or obviously reckless decision. It can also turn an everyday mistake into an exaggerated aviation emergency, giving reaction clips and gaming moments a dramatic sense of rapidly approaching disaster.

This warning is commonly labeled online as a TCAS alert, but terrain avoidance warnings are associated with terrain awareness and warning systems, including EGPWS. TCAS is primarily intended to warn pilots about conflicting aircraft traffic. The forceful spoken commands became familiar beyond aviation through flight simulator videos, cockpit recordings, gaming clips, and short-form memes. Creators continue using the alert because its meaning is instantly understandable: something is approaching the ground too quickly, and immediate corrective action is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Terrain Pull Up warning mean?

It indicates that an aircraft may be dangerously close to terrain or descending toward it. The repeated spoken command is intentionally direct and urgent, telling the flight crew that immediate action may be required to avoid ground impact.

Is Terrain Pull Up a TCAS warning?

Not technically. Terrain warnings are generally produced by a terrain awareness system such as EGPWS, while TCAS focuses on collision threats involving other aircraft. The clip is often called a TCAS sound online despite that distinction.

How is the Terrain Pull Up sound used in videos?

Creators place it before crashes, failed landings, sudden drops, or reckless decisions. It works especially well in flight simulator footage and gaming edits, where the first warning can build tension before the command coincides with impact.
