About this sound

A classic phone hang-up sound effect with the sharp click of a receiver being put down, often used in skits, prank edits, and abrupt conversation jokes.

This sound is a short telephone hang-up effect that captures the familiar click and cutoff you hear when a call ends suddenly. It has a crisp, old-school feel that instantly suggests someone ended the conversation, got annoyed, or shut down the moment. Because the clip is brief and clear, it works well as a punchline in comedy edits, reaction videos, and prank audio. Viewers recognize it right away, so it quickly adds tension, awkwardness, or a blunt final note without needing any extra context.

The telephone hang-up sound comes from the real-world action of ending a landline call by putting the receiver back on the cradle. Variations of this effect have been used for decades in radio, film, television, and online edits to signal an abrupt end to a conversation. It remains popular because the meaning is instantly clear, even to viewers who have never used older phones. In memes and short videos, creators use it as a quick audio cue for rejection, annoyance, or comedic finality.
