About this sound

Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka dryly says “Stop. Don't. Come back” in the 1971 film, creating a sarcastic reaction sound for weak warnings and obvious bad ideas.

This brief voice clip captures Willy Wonka delivering “Stop. Don't. Come back” with almost no urgency. Gene Wilder's slow, detached delivery makes the warning sound deliberately unconvincing, as though Wonka has no intention of preventing what happens next. The pauses between each word sharpen the sarcasm and give the line its memorable rhythm. Used as a reaction, it signals mock concern, reluctant intervention, or amused acceptance when someone ignores advice and heads toward an obvious mistake. Its dry tone can turn a tense or foolish moment into understated comedy.

The line comes from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with Gene Wilder playing eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. His deliberately indifferent warning became one of the character's most recognizable expressions of dry humor. Long after the film's release, the quote circulated through reaction images, GIFs, video edits, and short audio clips. It remains useful because the measured pauses communicate sarcasm instantly, especially when a creator wants to pretend to discourage behavior while clearly expecting the person to continue.
