About this sound

The opening bars of the Soviet anthem, a dramatic orchestral clip used in memes, edits and ironic reaction videos about Russia, communism or sudden intensity.

This clip is the opening section of the Soviet anthem, starting with the bold, instantly recognisable orchestral fanfare before the main vocal melody would normally take over. It has a grand, serious and triumphant sound that makes any scene feel bigger and more dramatic in seconds. Because the intro is so familiar online, people often use it for irony, over-the-top patriotic jokes, Russia-themed memes, or sudden hard-cut edits that turn an ordinary moment into something absurdly epic.

This sound comes from the opening of the State Anthem of the Soviet Union, whose melody was composed by Alexander Alexandrov. Short clips of the intro spread widely through internet memes, gaming edits and reaction videos, especially in the 2010s, because the first few seconds are immediately recognisable and easy to use as a punchline. It remains popular because the orchestral opening delivers instant scale, seriousness and irony, even when paired with something trivial or completely unrelated.
