About this sound

A short Team Fortress 2 Scout voice clip of him saying “chicken,” used in TF2 memes, edits, and joke callouts when someone backs off or plays scared.

This clip is a very short Team Fortress 2 voice line from the Scout, delivering the word “chicken” in his fast, cocky Boston tone. It lands like a quick taunt rather than a long quote, so it works well as a sharp punchline in edits. Because the line is so brief, creators use it to instantly call out cowardly behavior, fake bravado, or someone refusing a challenge. The humor comes from Scout’s smug attitude and the way the single word turns a moment into a playful insult.

This sound comes from Team Fortress 2, Valve’s class-based shooter released in 2007, and features the Scout, one of the game’s most recognizable characters. Short Scout voice lines became popular in gameplay montages, YouTube memes, and soundboards because they are expressive and easy to drop into edits. “Chicken” stuck around as a quick reaction sound for moments of fear, retreat, or hesitation, especially in gaming clips where a single taunt says everything faster than a full sentence.
