About this sound

The classic “meep meep” call of the Road Runner from Warner Bros. cartoons, used to punctuate speedy exits, narrow escapes, and playful chase edits.

This short clip captures the Road Runner’s unmistakable two-note call from the animated shorts featuring Wile E. Coyote. The quick, nasal “meep meep” is bright, playful, and closely associated with the bird speeding away before another trap can succeed. Its compact rhythm makes the sound instantly recognizable, even without accompanying animation. In videos, it creates a lighthearted sense of sudden movement, confident escape, or comic superiority. The effect works especially well when someone disappears from frame, outruns a problem, or leaves a confused rival behind.

The Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote debuted in the 1949 Warner Bros. animated short Fast and Furry-ous, directed by Chuck Jones from a story by Michael Maltese. The bird’s familiar call was performed by background artist Paul Julian and became a defining part of the recurring chase cartoons. Repeated television broadcasts helped generations recognize it as shorthand for speed and escape. Online, it remains useful alongside a cartoon chase or quick reaction edit because the brief call communicates motion without requiring dialogue or context.
