About this sound

A classic record scratch sound effect that abruptly cuts the music, often used in memes, skits, and freeze-frame joke edits.

This clip is the familiar record scratch followed by an abrupt stop, a short sound effect used to signal sudden interruption, surprise, or an awkward turn. It has that sharp vinyl scrape that instantly grabs attention and makes a moment feel like everything just screeched to a halt. In videos, it often lands right before a freeze frame, embarrassing reveal, or punchline. The effect is simple, but viewers immediately recognize it as a cue that something went wrong or the mood has changed fast.

The record scratch stop is a long-running editing staple rather than a sound tied to one modern meme source. It imitates the noise of a vinyl record being dragged or stopped suddenly, then became common in comedy editing, radio parody, and internet videos. Online creators still use it because the cue is instantly understood: the scene has taken an awkward, dramatic, or ridiculous turn. Its popularity lasts because it works across short memes, reaction edits, and classic freeze-frame joke setups.
