About this sound

Pipe Valve Squeaking is a brief creaking sound from the 1943 Donald Duck cartoon Donald's Tire Trouble, used for stiff mechanisms and awkward turns.

This half-second effect delivers a sharp, reverberant squeak resembling a dry wooden joint or tightly stuck valve being turned. Its abrupt pitch and creaking texture instantly suggest friction, strain, or an object resisting movement. Although extremely brief, the sound adds a distinctly cartoonish sense of effort to mechanical actions. Viewers can read it as a rusty handle, stubborn wheel, opening hinge, or stressed prop, making an otherwise simple motion feel old, awkward, and slightly comical.

The clip is associated with Donald's Tire Trouble, a Walt Disney Donald Duck animated short released on January 29, 1943. Its metadata also describes the effect as a reverberant wooden creak, matching the exaggerated mechanical noises common in animated physical comedy. Short creaks like this remain useful in online videos because they communicate resistance almost instantly. Editors apply them to valves, hinges, wheels, furniture, or character movements when a visual action needs an old-fashioned, strained, or humorous accent.
