About this sound

This brief voice clip saying “phew, that was close” is shared online as a meme reaction for near misses, narrow escapes, and risky plans that somehow work.

Running for just under two seconds, this clip delivers a quick spoken “phew, that was close” reaction. The phrase captures the instant relief that follows a narrow escape, avoided mistake, or last-second save. Its compact timing makes the voice land like a punchline without interrupting the pace of a video. Depending on the scene, it can make genuine tension feel lighter or turn an obviously staged mishap into a knowingly dramatic joke. The exhaled “phew” communicates relief first, while the rest of the line explains the close call.

The supplied metadata names the audio “Whew That Was Close - Sound Effect,” but does not identify an original film, show, performer, platform, or release year. Online, variations of “phew” and “whew” commonly spell the same expression of relief, which explains the alternate wording around this clip. Its usefulness comes from a universally understood setup: tension rises, the danger passes, and the line releases that tension. That simple structure keeps it relevant in gaming edits, fail compilations, reaction posts, and short comedy videos.
