About this sound

The famous Formula 1 race start call, used in memes, edits and sports clips to launch a fast moment or signal that something is officially starting.

This clip is the iconic Formula 1 commentary line “It’s lights out and away we go,” delivered with a sharp burst of excitement right as a race begins. The sound is clean, quick and instantly recognisable to motorsport fans, with a rising energy that makes any moment feel bigger and more dramatic. In edits, it works like a starting gun for action, chaos or speed. Even outside racing, people use it to introduce challenges, kick off gameplay, or turn a simple beginning into something that feels high stakes and cinematic.

This phrase is closely associated with Formula 1 broadcasts and became widely known through commentator David Croft’s race-start call. As F1 clips spread across YouTube, TikTok and meme edits, the line escaped motorsport and became shorthand for any big launch moment. It is still popular because the wording is short, the delivery is urgent, and viewers immediately understand that something is about to begin at full speed.
