About this sound

The classic Gnomed meme sound plays the 'You've been gnomed' gag audio, used in bait-and-switch edits, surprise reveals and old-school meme remixes.

This sound is the short audio sting tied to the Gnomed meme, where a sudden gnome image or clip interrupts what seemed like normal content. It usually features the recognizable line and jingle associated with the prank, creating an abrupt, goofy reveal. The effect is intentionally silly rather than loud or scary, so it lands as a playful gotcha. Creators use it to turn a serious setup into a joke, especially in fake intros, unexpected cuts and nostalgic meme edits that lean into early internet humor.

The Gnomed meme became widely known online in the late 2000s and early 2010s as a bait-and-switch prank. Instead of delivering the expected clip or link, the edit suddenly cuts to the gnome reveal and its signature audio. It spread across forums, YouTube remixes and reuploads because the joke is simple, fast and easy to recognize. Like other abrupt interrupt memes such as bruh, it survives because even a very short clip can instantly flip the mood of a video into something absurd.
