About this sound

A goofy brain fart sound effect used in memes, fail edits and awkward pauses when someone forgets something or says something obviously dumb.

This clip is a comedic brain fart sound effect, built around a silly fart-style noise that lands like a sudden mental short circuit. It usually plays as a punchline right after a mistake, blank stare or painfully bad take. The sound has a childish, lowbrow feel, which is exactly why it works so well in short meme edits. It instantly tells the viewer that a thought has gone nowhere, making confusion, forgetfulness and secondhand embarrassment feel louder and funnier without needing any extra explanation.

This sound does not have a clearly documented single media origin, and it is mostly known as a meme-style edit sound used across short-form videos and soundboards. Creators use brain fart clips to represent a mental lapse, a bad idea or a sudden loss of words. Its popularity comes from how instantly recognizable the joke is: the noise turns confusion into a punchline in one beat. It often appears alongside other simple reaction sounds such as a buzzer or fart with reverb in meme edits.
