About this sound

The famous Family Guy clip of Peter Griffin singing Surfin' Bird, used in memes, edits and reaction videos for chaotic, repetitive comedy.

This sound is the well known Family Guy bit where Peter Griffin breaks into the song Surfin' Bird and repeats “bird is the word” over and over. The clip has a loud, silly, deliberately annoying energy that quickly turns a normal scene into chaos. It works because the repetition is catchy, absurd and impossible to ignore, so viewers instantly recognize the joke. In edits and meme videos, people use it to derail a serious moment, stretch a punchline, or show a character becoming weirdly obsessed with something.

This sound is tied to Family Guy's recurring use of “Surfin' Bird,” the 1963 song by The Trashmen. The Peter Griffin version became especially memorable through the show's long-running gag built around “bird is the word,” which spread widely in clips, remixes, and reposts online. It remains popular because people instantly recognize the reference and because the repetition makes it perfect for ironic edits, bait-and-switch punchlines, and deliberately overdone comedy in short videos.
