About this sound

The iconic chorus from Michael Jackson’s 1982 song Billie Jean, used in dance edits, throwback videos, music quizzes and dramatic pop culture moments.

This clip captures the chorus of Billie Jean, with Michael Jackson’s unmistakable lead vocal set against the song’s tight bass line, crisp drums and polished pop production. The repeated hook gives the excerpt an immediate sense of recognition, while the tense lyrics and danceable rhythm create a striking contrast. In a video, it can bring retro energy, suspense or playful confidence depending on the visuals. Its familiar melody also makes the clip effective for reveals, performance edits and moments built around a dramatic denial or misunderstanding.

Billie Jean was written and performed by Michael Jackson and released in 1983 as a single from Thriller, his 1982 album. Its distinctive bass line, vocal hook and acclaimed music video helped make it one of his signature recordings. The song also became closely associated with Jackson’s televised Motown 25 performance, where he showcased the moonwalk. Decades later, chorus excerpts remain common in dance videos, nostalgic pop edits, music challenges and scenes that play on the lyric’s themes of denial and accusation.
