About this sound

The classic Wololo chant from Age of Empires, used in memes and edits when someone switches sides, gets converted, or changes their mind.

This clip is the famous "Wololo" chant associated with the monk or priest conversion sound in Age of Empires. It is short, rhythmic, and instantly recognizable to strategy game fans, with a sing-song vocal delivery that sounds both calm and oddly powerful. In edits, it usually lands as a joke right at the moment someone gets persuaded, brainwashed, recruited, or unexpectedly joins the other team. The sound works because it turns a simple switch of allegiance into something dramatic, nerdy, and very easy to understand.

Wololo comes from the priest and monk conversion audio in the Age of Empires series, especially remembered from the original game and Age of Empires II in the late 1990s. The chant became a long-running gaming meme because players instantly connected it with stealing enemy units and flipping control. Online, people use it whenever someone changes sides, changes their mind, or gets symbolically converted. Its staying power comes from how short, strange, and recognizable the vocal cue is even outside the game.
