About this sound

A short 808 bass sound effect with a deep, punchy low-end hit. Creators use it to emphasize reveals, transitions, jokes, and dramatic meme edits.

This 808 sound is a compact low-frequency hit with a heavy attack and a brief, resonant tail. Its bass-forward character gives even a simple visual moment extra weight, making cuts, reveals, impacts, and punchlines feel more dramatic. Because the clip lasts just over one second, it works as a quick accent rather than a sustained musical passage. The familiar booming texture is especially effective in meme videos, gaming edits, and short-form reactions where an exaggerated drop can turn an ordinary movement or expression into a forceful comedic beat.

The term 808 comes from the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer, a drum machine introduced in 1980 and known for its distinctive bass drum. That deep, sustained tone became foundational in hip-hop, electronic music, and later trap production. Online, “808” also serves as shorthand for powerful sub-bass hits used in memes and short video edits. Its immediate physical impact keeps it useful for modern reaction clips, especially alongside bass boost effects, sharp cuts, visual shakes, and exaggerated moments.
