The iconic TARDIS takeoff and landing sound from Doctor Who, used in memes, edits and sci-fi videos to signal sudden arrivals, exits or time travel.

This clip is the famous TARDIS sound from Doctor Who, the groaning, wheezing effect heard when the blue police box materializes or dematerializes. It starts with a mechanical, windy rise and has an eerie, otherworldly wobble that instantly suggests time travel, teleportation or something strange entering the scene. Even outside the show, viewers recognize it as a dramatic sci-fi cue. It can make a simple cut feel bigger, funnier or more mysterious, especially when a character appears out of nowhere or a scene suddenly shifts.

The TARDIS sound comes from Doctor Who, the long-running British television series first broadcast in 1963. It is associated with the Doctor's time machine as it appears and disappears, and it became one of the show's most recognizable audio signatures. Over time, fans and editors brought it into memes, parody videos and gaming edits because a few seconds instantly communicate teleportation, time travel or a bizarre arrival. Its staying power comes from how distinctive it is, even to many people who have never watched the series.
